A lawsuit was filed on December 18 in Clark County District Court.
Allegedly, security at the Mandalay Bay casino-hotel detained Stephen M. Soldis after assaulting him criminally.
The staff claimed that Soldis had criminally assaulted a member of the security personnel.
There are five different counts listed in the lawsuit.
The counts are false imprisonment, battery, defamation, conversion/trespass to chattels, and assault against the plaintiff.
Soldis is looking to get $15,000, interest, costs, and attorneys’ fees for compensatory and punitive damages.
The Situation
The original encounter occurred last year on April 9, 2024, at a show being hosted in Mandalay Bay.
Security led Soldis out of the show and instructed him to leave.
In the lawsuit, it is stated that the plaintiff requested that he at least be given a refund, which he was denied, and after that, he attempted to leave the premises.
While Soldis was headed for the exit, his way was blocked by a member of security.
It is speculated that the guard had allegedly done this in an attempt to use a cellphone to record the presence of Soldis.
The plaintiff continued trying to leave when the guard’s behavior became what has been described as ”menacing”.
The security officer had allegedly “got up” in his face when he had stopped Soldis from leaving.
After the guard placed his hand on the plaintiff’s shoulder, Soldis attempted to remove it, which, according to the lawsuit, led to a physical confrontation.
After that, several other members of the security staff brought Soldis down, caused him physical harm by beating him, restrained him, and took him to a cell.
One thing had led to another, and the whole thing had become a “rose to the level of a criminal assault,” as described in the lawsuit.
Personal Damages
Security took Soldis’s belongings while they were holding him; this included his wallet.
Soldis had gone through physical distress and pain and suffered a contusion due to the treatment he had allegedly received from staffers.
The physical injuries he received include strained muscles and contusions. Soldis shared he also lost “general loss of faith in society, justice, and fellow citizens”.
