Las Vegas Sands Kicks off $8B Marina Bay Sands Expansion
If everything goes smoothly, the new tower and facilities should open in January 2031

Casino and hospitality giant Las Vegas Sands has kicked off the construction of its Marina Bay Sands expansion. The $8 billion endeavor will significantly improve the company’s Singapore portfolio.
A Game Changer for Both LVS and Singapore
The works kicked off on Tuesday and should wrap up by June 2030. LVS held the groundbreaking ceremony on July 15. It was attended by many company officials, as well as by Singapore’s PM Lawrence Wong and Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Grace Fu Hai.
PM Wong spoke on the partnership between Singapore and LVS, saying that he is glad that it has not only flourished but also provided opportunities for expansion. He thanked the casino company for trusting in Singapore and its future and said that he is looking forward to taking the relationship with the operator to the next level.
LVS CEO Rob Goldstein was likewise pleased. He called Marina Bay Sands the “most successful integrated resort” ever and expressed excitement about opening a new chapter for the property.
With its opening in 2010, our founder, Sheldon G. Adelson embarked on a journey in Singapore with Marina Bay Sands and the people of Singapore that promised to change the face of tourism in the region. Fifteen years later, we have delivered on these ambitions and more.
Rob Golstein, CEO, LVS
Moshe Safdie of Safdie Architects, the company working on the expansion, also weighed in on the matter, saying:
With this new development at Marina Bay Sands, we set out to create a building that is both emblematic of the future and rooted in the values of Singapore—where the public realm is celebrated, nature is thoughtfully integrated, and shared experiences are infused with delight.
Moshe Safdie
If everything goes smoothly, the new facilities should open in January 2031.
What to Expect?
So, what does this expansion entail? LVS’s plans outline a significant $8 billion expansion that was dubbed Marina Bay Sands 2.0, which will see the construction of a brand new 55-story building with some 570 premium suites. In addition to being able to accommodate hundreds of guests, the new hotel block will also feature a new gaming area, offering many new gambling opportunities.
Other than that, visitors can look forward to a variety of shops, restaurants and leisure facilities. The new property will also have a 200,000 square foot area for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions. This area will also feature a 15,000-seat arena designed by Populous, the mastermind behind the famous Las Vegas Sphere.
The cherry on top will be a 76,000-square-foot Skyloop with multiple restaurants, a garden, infinity-edge pools, and various private and public spaces. This will mirror the iconic rooftop facilities that the main Marina Bay Sands building is famous for.
