Las Vegas Casino Workers Have Another Problem: Guests Don’t Tip

While Las Vegas casino, restaurant, and hospitality workers can look forward to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, there are more economic problems in the backdrop

Casino and hospitality workers in Nevada are set to get some reprieve, with the Republican-spearheaded One Big Beautiful Bill Act meant to end taxation on tips.

Tips Are Not a Given in Las Vegas, But More Workers Expect Them

Now, this would be great news, but according to Toast, a company that runs a POS network in 156,000 restaurants across the country, Las Vegas workers are at a disadvantage.

Travelers and holidaymakers in Las Vegas are apparently among the worst tipsters in the country, the company’s new study reveals, analyzing data from its terminals and transactions. Another issue is the lukewarm tipping culture in Las Vegas, possibly because the destination is rather expensive and sees a lot of people spending a lot upfront on resorts and accommodation.

Toast argues that the third quarter was still slow for tipping practices in Las Vegas and Nevada, although slight improvements have been registered. This culture of skinflint tippers is somehow uniquely Nevadan, with casino winners in Sin City and the Silver State usually tipping well below the average after they secure a large win.

This claim is borne out by Vital Vegas’ Scott Roeben, who said that in places such as Park MGM, people who win million-plus dollars would actually not tip at all. There has also been a significant clash over tipping culture.

Consumers are less likely to do it, but workers, be that in hotels, casinos, resorts, or even ancillary services such as fast food, have become more expectant to be tipped, and demand not as the standard evaluation of their services, but as a given at every serving.

Consumers Do Not Appreciate Being Pushed into Tipping

This comes against a backdrop of flight schedule issues, which continue to diminish Las Vegas’ tourism capabilities.

Economic difficulties have compounded the situation as well, with businesses trying to solicit more tips. However, consumers are even more inclined to refuse tips if they are badgered over them, which should serve as a warning to businesses.

In the meantime, anti-immigration raids have further worsened the business environment in Nevada, leading to staffing shortages.
