Dallas Mavericks Snag Top Pick in 2025 NBA Draft Lottery
The Dallas Mavericks went into the lottery as major long shots, holding only a 1.8% chance of landing the number one pick

The Dallas Mavericks pulled off a stunner in the recent NBA Draft Lottery, grabbing the prized No. 1 overall pick for the 2025 NBA Draft.
Mavericks Stun NBA Lottery, Land No. 1 Pick With Just 1.8% Odds
The Dallas Mavericks entered the lottery as huge underdogs with just a 1.8% shot at the top spot. However, against all expectations, the Mavericks came out on top in a win that could change the team’s path for years to come.
The lottery happening at McCormick Place in Chicago brought a shocking result that amazed many. This marked Dallas’ first win in the lottery since it began in 1985, and it is the fourth time a team with less than 2% chances has grabbed the top pick.
Team leaders and supporters were overjoyed after the announcement. Dallas CEO Rick Welts called this moment a game-changer for the organization, saying it gave a much-needed boost after a rough season. Welts mentioned that even Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont missed the news at first while at a family event, and had to learn about it from an excited phone call from former team owner Mark Cuban.
Mavericks Eye Top Prospect Cooper Flagg
The Mavericks’ front office now has the chance to pick Duke University’s star freshman Cooper Flagg. Most people think they will choose the 18-year-old forward. Flagg helped the Blue Devils reach the Final Four this season. He has become one of the most wanted players in recent years.
People know Flagg for his ability to play different positions and stay calm under pressure. Flagg scored an average of 19.2 points, grabbed 7.5 rebounds, and made 4.2 assists per game. He also showed he is good at defense and can shoot well from far away.
His quick time with Team USA’s Olympic training camp last summer, where he played against top NBA players, boosted his standing. People noticed that he did not just keep up but left a good mark at only 17 years old.
The lottery win came at a key moment for Dallas. The team had a tough 2024-2025 season, with the big midseason trade of star Luka Dončić to the Lakers and lots of injuries to main players, including Kyrie Irving and new addition Anthony Davis. After losing in the Play-In Tournament, the lottery win gives them a rare bit of good news.
San Antonio, Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Utah complete the top five in the draft order, with the Spurs now having an enticing decision at No. 2. The 2025 NBA Draft will happen on two nights — June 25 and June 26 — at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Everyone will watch Dallas as the team gets ready to start a new chapter led by a once-in-a-generation player in Cooper Flagg.
