Workers Stage Protest Close to Las Vegas over Pay, Healthcare, and Pensions

Harry Reid Airport staff members have called for fairer wages, many of which have not been raised in years, with some protesters saying that they last had a bump four years before. Protesters also claimed that their employer is supposedly looking into significantly scaling back their pensions and health care plans, by as much as 40% according to protesters.

“Workers at the DBE concessionaires at LAS Airport are fighting for a new contract that secures a better future for their families. That’s why the Culinary Union has picketed, protested, rallied, participated in civil disobedience, and now has called for a strike at the Village Pub at the Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) and urges passengers to stand in solidarity with the workers. An active strike at Harry Reid International Airport could significantly impact operations at LAS ahead of the busy holiday season in Las Vegas,” said Ted Pappageorge, Secretary-Treasurer for the Culinary Union.

This is not the only union action to take place recently. On Tuesday, the United Auto Workers joined a Hard Rock Casino Rockford employee picket line in a show of support as dozens of workers are looking to join the union and are expecting a decision.
