College Football Player Taunts Gamblers, Apologizes for How Things Ended

Indiana University quarterback Fernando Mendoza wants you to know he is sorry about your sports betting outcomes not coming the way you expected them to. The quarterback was evidently taking a swipe at online gamblers who have been piling on the Internet hate on student-athletes, accusing them of not performing in a certain way.

Win or lose, gamblers have found a way to pick a bone with student-athletes, but not Mendoza, whose team routed the Big Ten’s Iowa in a 20-15 game last Saturday. As a result, Indiana remains the reigning and undefeated champion so far, and Mendoza is making waves.

Did I Cost You Your Spreads? I Am So Sorry

Mendoza himself was apparently aware of the betting volumes going on the game, and when he ran back for safety, he purposefully sought to help the score end 20-15, not because of some vested interest, but out of acknowledgment that there was a lot of spread betting action going on a seven-point difference.

He was unabashed about the whole situation, however: “I know I really cooked people’s spreads. My apologies to them.” Of course, with a lot of betting action going on, Mendoza could not have known whom he would hurt by deciding to play one way or another – some people benefited.

Nevertheless, Mendoza’s remarks were motivated by defiance – he is apparently also fed up with gamblers slinging slurs at college athletes. For all it matters, though – he is “sorry.”
