Chicago-area Man Wins $1M from Illinois Lottery

A man who resides in the Chicago area has become the latest person to pose with the outsized check for the customary photo-op at the Illinois Lottery’s headquarters after winning $1 million and 1 dollar from the iLottery.

While the winner preferred to remain anonymous (although not all winners do), they picked a moniker to be identified by – Music Man, and also provided the public with details about what they intend to do with the money next. 

First, the backstory. “When I win, it’s usually just a few dollars—just enough to break even,” Music Man said, adding that he was deeply surprised to find out that he had won the Lucky Day Lotto prize.

“It felt completely unreal,” he mused. Music Man was able to match all five winning numbers during the January 4 Lucky Day Lotto evening draw, fetching him the grand prize – along with a single dollar extra because he matched two numbers on a separate line.

Thus, his total payout stood at the slightly cheeky $1,000,001. Music Man was excited to share the good news with his wife, who was asleep in bed with him. He woke her up and shared the news – she was equally incredulous at what had transpired.

“No way! Are you serious?” she asked, bewildered. As to what Music Man actually intends to do, he sums it up neatly – “family first.” 

“I plan to surprise my kids with a new house. After all, their birthday numbers landed me the jackpot,” the winner said. This is among the latest jackpots to drop in Illinois early into the new year, with the state minting new seven-figure winners almost every week. 

This is not the only big winner coming out of the Prairie State.
