Brightstar & Scientific Games to Launch São Paulo Lottery

Brightstar Lottery and Scientific Games, two of the world’s top lottery companies, have joined forces to launch a new lottery in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Local players can therefore look forward to enjoying a variety of games through the lottery’s digital and retail channels.

São Paulo to Get a World-Class Lottery

According to the announcement, Brightstar’s Brightstar Global Solution Corporation and Scientific Games have formed the SP Loterias SPE S.A. (SPL) and executed a concession agreement with the government of the State of São Paulo, under which they will operate a new lottery.

Per the 15-year concession, the SPL will receive an exclusive state license to run lottery operations in the state. As a result, the newly formed entity will be allowed to offer a variety of products, including draw-based, instant and eInstant products.

The concession also allows the SPL to offer both online and retail lottery gaming. Brightstar and Scientific Games have already confirmed that they plan on delivering omnichannel experiences and seamless player journeys.

SPL Has Been Designed to Meet the Needs of All Shareholders

Representatives commented on the matter, with Marco Tasso, Brightstar’s chief operating officer for Italy and international lottery operations saying that his team is very pleased to join forces with Scientific Games and expand its operations in Brazil. Tasso vowed to leverage Brightstar’s 40+ years of experience in lottery gaming to dazzle São Paulo and its 44 million residents with a world-class lottery.

Michael Conforti, Scientific Games’ president of international, was similarly pleased about the joint venture with Brightstar. He said that the SPL is the result of months of work with the fellow lottery company and has been designed to meet the needs of all shareholders.

In the meantime, Brightstar just penned a 6-year instant ticket printing and related services contract with its longtime partner, the California Lottery. The lottery company noted that the contract was secured following a competitive procurement.

Last year, Brightstar formally signed a deal to operate Italy Lotto through 2034.
