Brightstar Lottery, an innovative, forward-thinking global leader in lottery, announced that it has finally signed the agreement to operate Italy Lotto. This comes after a bidding battle against Flutter, which sought to scoop up the license.

LottoItalia to Continue Operating Italy Lotto

In its latest announcement, Brightstar (formerly IGT Lottery) confirmed that its Italian subsidiary, LottoItalia, has signed an agreement to operate Italy Lotto for the next nine years.

LottoItalia, which is a consortium led by Brightstar and comprised of Allwyn, Arianna 2001, and Novomatic Italia, secured the license to operate Italy Lotto earlier this year, following a challenge from Flutter-owned rival bidder Sisal.

Despite the challenge, the Agenize delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM) ended up awarding the license to LottoItalia, securing Brightstar’s continued custodianship of the lottery. Brightstar, which has managed the Italy Lotto license for over three decades, was delighted by the opportunity to continue operating the lottery.

For context, Italy Lotto is the largest fixed odds number game in the world. Under the new license, Brightstar will continue to manage it until November 2034.

Brightstar Was Honored to Be Entrusted with the License

In the official announcement, Brightstar’s chief executive officer of Global Lottery, Renato Ascoli, praised the finalization of the agreement with the ADM. He added that his team is both delighted and honored to be entrusted to operate Italy’s largest lottery for the next nine years.

We look forward to driving Lotto wager growth with new player touchpoints and digitization of the retail experience, growing iLottery sales, and providing iCasino, sports betting, and other digital games to players in Italy.
