Bettor’s Viral $270K Pay-Out Drops to $60K, Dream Hangs by a Thread
The bettor explained that while he obviously wanted the Oilers to win, he still believes in the team and is sticking with his decision not to cash out yet

The story of the bettor who placed $13 and has predicted the victories of the LA Dodgers, New York Liberty, and the Philadelphia Eagles, has captured the internet over the past couple of weeks. However, while he was positioned to win $270,000 from his bet, he could now cash out only $60,000 following the Edmonton Oilers’ 2-1 result against the Florida Panthers
Bettor’s $13 Gamble Hangs in the Balance
Called Drew Hirschman, the bettor had the chance to cash out for $123,614 after Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final a week ago. However, the recent college graduate chose to hold firm in hopes of claiming the full $270,762 payout. That decision may now be backfiring, as the Edmonton Oilers trail 2-1 in their series against the Florida Panthers, and the underdog Indiana Pacers have taken a 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals.
Last week, when Hirschman had the chance to cash the large prize, he refused, hoping to get $270,000 instead. However, this only further highlighted his situation and made his case more prominent through social media. This led to many people offering to buy the lucky ticket, but Hirschman refused even six-figure offers, including one for $135,000 that was later rescinded. He told the media that he’s been working with his dad, whom he calls a “math guy,” to come up with hedging strategies that have cost them around $50,000 so far. The goal is to lock in a strong return regardless of the outcome, with the current potential max payout sitting around $210,000.
Currently, however, Hirschman’s cash-out has dropped to $60,000, following the Edmonton Oilers’ defeat. The New Yorker bettor appeared visibly deflated in a recent update about his situation, though he’s still trying to stay optimistic about his chances.
Hirschman Talks About the Current Situation
In a recent interview, the bettor explained that while he obviously wanted the Oilers to win, he still believes in the team and is sticking with his decision not to cash out yet. Hirschman also said that America believes in the team, which gives him extra confidence.
However, he also pointed out that the Oilers must win their next match in order for him to be close to his goal. The young New Yorker further emphasized that the Florida Panthers are a great team, but the Edmonton Oilers are better, exclaiming with confidence that they will win in seven games.
