Australian Lotto Still on the Lookout for AU$100M Winner

The Lottery has raised the alarm over fears that Australia’s latest Powerball jackpot winner may have lost their ticket

Two weeks ago, the Australian Lottery raised eyebrows when it suggested the AU$100 million winner might never come forward, just days after the draw. At the time, it seemed premature. Now, that concern is starting to feel a lot more real.

Mystery Powerball Winner in Australia Is Still Missing

On June 12, someone won AU$100 million from the Powerball draw. The lottery did not wait long to suggest that the person may have lost their ticket. The lottery was drawing on experience with big-time winners, most of whom were keen to get to the lottery before long and ensure that their win was authentic.

However, this has not happened only a few days after the win, when the lottery first raised an alarm, but also as June is coming to an end. While the winning ticket was indeed sold at Bondi Junction Newsagency, an Internet Café, the ticket was not registered with The Lott Members Club, which means that officials have not been able to contact the owner.

Worse still, if the person had misplaced their ticket, lost or destroyed it, there is no way of now authenticating their win. As irony would have it, there is always the possibility of someone buying the ticket and not bothering to check it at all, because what are the odds of actually winning?

However, the lottery remains optimistic and has reminded the anonymous and unknown winner that their ticket may be hiding in “plain sight.” It could be in their wallet or purse, as many winners tend to forget about the tickets as well.

Lottery Reminds Players to Check Their Tickets

The good news is that whoever may have won has plenty of time to claim the prize. New South Wales is one of the most flexible jurisdictions when it comes to winning lottery tickets, and, as things stand, the person or people behind the ticket would have up to six years to claim the prize.

As to the lottery, it has used the opportunity and the size of the win to send another simple message – make sure to register your tickets with The Lott Members Club, so that the lottery can remind you that you have just won millions of dollars if you happen to forget.
