Amazon Launches Robotaxi Service Zoox in Las Vegas

Long before firebrand entrepreneur Elon Musk touted the benefits of robotaxis, companies have been working feverishly to release them on the market

Amazon’s Zoox, a ride-hailing robotaxi service, hit the streets on Wednesday, September 10, in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the latest company to join the fray in delivering Americans cheap and autonomous transportation that deals with traffic jitters and allows for comfortable rides from Location A to Location B.

Zoox’s Fleet to Hit Streets of Las Vegas – and Offer Free Rides

Zoox is an ambitious take in this segment, as the company has done away with the steering wheel, and it is banking that its ride-hailing service is the best way to travel around Sin City and enjoy its many gambling and entertainment options.

Zoox has automated the process of hailing a robotaxi through a dedicated app, which can be used at five designated locations for now, including iconic casinos and gambling venues.

Among those are Resorts World, Luxor Hotel, and New York-New York Hotel, with Zoox picking the venues carefully to both guarantee itself enough traffic as well as test its cars in some of the busiest spots in Sin City.

Zoox will also focus on offering free car rides as it continues to test and fine-tune its service, and this is expected to continue for at least several other months. With Amazon’s backing, Zoox is hoping that whatever costs are racked up now will be offset much later on.

Fetching Rides from Las Vegas to San Francisco and Beyond

Zoox is also not operating uncontested, as it will be going up against the likes of Waymo, a Google spin-off, and Tesla’s own robotaxis, which are poised to arrive on busy streets across the United States, and possibly Las Vegas.

Zoox is prepared to win the robotaxi race, as the company has said that it has the capacity to manufacture as many as 10,000 robotaxis per year, should everything go according to plan. The company is pushing in other places, too, including California and Texas.
