Alex Pereira Favored to Defend His UFC Light Heavyweight Title
Alex Pereira is one of the greatest strikers in the UFC, if not the very best one. No surprise there as he’s a former kickboxing champ who’s been brilliant with his punches and kicks since moving to MMA.
He made his professional debut in the sport of mixed martial arts in 2015. It wasn’t a successful debut, but after the loss in his first fight, he went on to win 10 and lose just one fight.
The fight he lost was against Israel Adesanya in the battle for the UFC Middleweight title. After that loss, he moved to the UFC Light Heavyweight Division, which is where he’s 3-0.
First, he defeated Jan Blachowicz by a split decision. Then, he beat Jiri Prochazka by a TKO. Finally, last April, he defeated the former champ Jamahal Hill by a first-round KO.
Jiri Prochazka Plotting His Revenge
In their first fight, we saw how dangerous Poatan actually is. Prochazka looked good for nearly 10 minutes, but then Pereira finished him with elbows. It was Prochazka’s first loss since 2015.
However, there’s a caveat. The fight in question was the first fight for the Czech martial artist after his shoulder injury that forced him to vacate his UFC Light Heavyweight belt. He perhaps needed more time to prepare.
But now, he seems to be ready to fight, the best evidence being that he’s coming off a Performance of the Night Bonus-worthy win over Aleksandar Rakic last April.
Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka 2 Prediction
It’s likely that the second fight between Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka is going to be more exciting than the first one. Both fighters have evolved since then, with Pereira getting bigger and better when it comes to grappling. Prochazka too looks stronger than before and is ready to throw everything he has at Poatan.
Still, we do think that the Brazilian is the better fighter. His striking skills are so good that we think Prochazka stands no chance in this fight.
Pick: Alex Pereira
