AGA Highlights Strong Public Support for Regulated Gaming

The AGA noted that most players prefer regulated gaming are aware of and supportive of the industry’s safer gambling efforts

The American Gaming Association (AGA) announced that a record-breaking number of Americans enjoyed regulated gambling in 2025. The organization attributed this to a variety of factors, including the industry’s growth, economic contributions, and continued commitment to responsible gaming.

A Record-Breaking Number of Players Gambled

The AGA said that its annual survey has highlighted record-breaking casino visitation, strong support for the legalization of sports betting across the USA, higher channelization rates, and recognition of the gambling sector’s responsible gambling efforts.

In 2024, casino visitation surpassed 50% for the first time as 134 million individuals visited one of the many casinos available to them. Further data shows that roughly three in four US citizens believe that having legal casinos in their state is an advantage. Respondents agreed that the casino sector creates many jobs and opportunities, contributes to the economy, supports local businesses, and drives tourism.

In the meantime, support for legal sports betting remained strong as more and more states continued to launch their own markets, with Missouri being the next in line. As it turns out, some 74% of Americans support regulated sports betting in their state, suggesting strong bipartisan approval. The AGA added that a staggering 78% Americans say they view sports betting as a form of entertainment.

Americans Prefer Regulated Gaming

As the legal market continues to grow, the industry has remained committed to compliance. At the same time, regulators have recognized the importance of cracking down on offshore operators.

AGA data suggests that most American online gamblers prefer playing with legal operators. According to its survey, 93% of sports bettors and 90% of online gamblers cited legality as an important factor in their decision-making.

However, there are some challenges too, as a concerning 40% of online gamblers and bettors seem to have difficulty identifying which platforms are legal. The majority of players in states with legal betting markets believe that it is up to the legal industry to properly advertise its products and channel players toward the legal sector.

In the meantime, the AGA noted that most players are aware of and supportive of the industry’s safer gambling efforts. According to the association, 77% of traditional casino patrons believe that the industry’s responsible gambling initiatives are effective. In the meantime, 88% of sports bettors believe the same thing for the wagering sector’s player protection measures.

Bill Miller Is Excited by the Momentum

Bill Miller, AGA’s president and CEO, said that the results highlight the sustainable foundation of American gaming and strong consumer confidence in locally-regulated markets.

We will continue to build on this momentum by expanding the legal market, strengthening responsibility, and ensuring gaming delivers for players and communities alike.
