Viva Mexico Odds Favor Shane van Gisbergen

Shane van Gisbergen is sitting in the 33rd position in the NASCAR Drivers’ Championship, with his best finish in 2025 happening at the Circuit of the Americas in March – he finished 6th.

That’s his only Top 10 finish in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series, which begs the question of why he’s favored to win the Viva Mexico 250 race. The No. 1 reason is that he’s the ultimate road-course ringer with great achievements on these sorts of tracks during his Supercars days.

This is the first time NASCAR is coming to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, but this track is pretty similar to some races on the Cup Series roster, especially the COTA, with its large run-off areas and super smooth surface.

William Byron Loves These Types of Races Too

The man sitting at the very top of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series standings – William Byron – is without a single triumph since the first race of the season. However, he’s had three other No. 2 finishes, one of which happened at the Circuit of the Americas.

Speaking of which, this guy tends to do well at the COTA. He won the race in 2024 and had a Top 12 finish on two other occasions. Byron also did very well in Michigan – which isn’t too dissimilar to the Mexico track – leading the most laps (98 out of 200) and winning Stage 2.

Unfortunately for him, he ran out of fuel with just two laps remaining in the race, which led to a pit stop under the white flag. Not only did this cost him the win, but he finished in 28th place – his worst finish of the season.

Other Drivers to Watch Out for at Viva Mexico

In addition to van Gisbergen and Byron, there are four other drivers with Viva Mexico odds shorter than +1000. Those are, namely, Christopher Bell (+800), Tyler Reddick (+800), Chase Elliott (+800), and Kyle Larson (+900).

Bell is a multiple road-course winner, who’s been sensational this season. However, it’s been a while since he last won a race. The last time it happened was in early March.

When it comes to Reddick and Elliott, neither of them has won a single race in the 2025 Cup Series. Larson, on the other hand, has won three races so far, most recently in Kansas on May 11.

These guys are famously good at practically all types of tracks, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if any of them won in Mexico City.

2025 Viva Mexico 250 Prediction

Our 2025 Viva Mexico 250 pick is William Byron. This race looks like an ideal opportunity for him to start winning again. He came very close to winning last weekend, which is evidence that he’s got it in him. This time around, we bet he’s gonna do better.

Pick: William Byron
