Reasons Why Oscar Piastri is the Betting Favorite
Oscar Piastri is the man who won seven of the 15 races this season. In another seven, the Aussie driver finished in the Top 3, with his worst performance happening on the opening day when he finished ninth.

The McLaren driver is sitting at the top of the World Drivers’ Championship standings, but there are plenty more points to be won. That said, his job in 2025 is far from being done. He needs to keep on driving well to stay in the No. 1 position.
The good news for him and his team is that practically the only man who’s got a reasonable chance to challenge for that spot is Piastri’s McLaren colleague, Lando Norris.
Lando Norris Wants to Start Winning Again
His car caught fire in the previous race, the result of which is that he finished in 18th place in the Netherlands. It was the second time he finished in this position in 2025, with all other races seeing him get a Top 4 finish. In fact, this guy has won five races this season, as well as finished in second spot on six occasions.
He’s trailing behind his McLaren teammate Piastri by 34 points in the F1 standings, meaning that he can catch up with the Australian before the season wraps up. However, that’s not his team’s top priority.
Instead, they want to make sure he stays at a safe distance from third-placed Max Verstappen. Either way, getting back on the podium is a must for both of those scenarios.
Other Drivers to Watch Out For in Monza
George Russell is seen as the No. 2 favorite to win the Italian GP. He’s behind Piastri but above Norris on the list of top favorites. The main reason is that the Mercedes driver has been synonymous with constant performances in 2025.
He’s won just one race so far – the Canadian GP in mid-June – but he’s also finished in the Top 10 in 13 of the 14 other races. Max Verstappen is also in the mix, last year’s champ who’s been putting on decent performances lately, but who’s without a single win since May.
Then, there’s Charles Leclerc, last year’s winner of the Italian GP, who had to retire from the Dutch GP last weekend after a collision. He’s without a win in 2025, but we did see him finish on the podium on five occasions.
2025 Italian Grand Prix Prediction
Our pick is Lando Norris. We think that the McLaren driver is in great form, and the mishap in the Netherlands is only going to motivate him to do better in the remainder of the season.
Pick: Lando Norris
