WSOP Poker Player Seen Fully Covering Face Sparks Discussion about the Practice

Poker pro Alex Duvall took to X to question whether wearing such heavy face coverings was actually within the rules

A participant in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event was seen wearing a mask that fully covers his face, which sparked heated discussion among pros and viewers about the legality of the practice.

Face-Covering WSOP Player Sparks

The participant in the World Series of Poker Main Event wore a low-hanging visor that concealed his eyes, along with a mask that covered the rest of his face. Partially covering one’s face is not an uncommon practice during poker matches, both at a high and low level. Many poker players attempt to obscure parts of their face during play to avoid revealing any tells through their eyes or expressions.

However, this one player’s case is definitely eye-catching as they are covering the entirety of their face. Poker pro Alex Duvall took to X to question whether wearing such heavy face coverings was actually within the rules. After wondering aloud if any regulations addressed the issue, Duvall shared a follow-up video showing a tournament official instructing the player to remove at least one of the items.

The situation escalated when the player chose to put the visor back on and continue playing. The potential consequences of this move remain unclear, though some users on X speculated that a repeat offense could result in a one-round penalty if officials were forced to intervene again.

There Have Been Other Similar Cases Before

While this player’s case may be rare, it’s definitely not unique in the world of WSOP. There have been multiple cases where players have worn fully, or almost fully, face-covering gear, which has often led to viewers asking if that’s allowed by the rules. For example, last month during Game #1 of the 2025 WSOP, one player named Acevedo, who sat at the final table, was observed to be wearing a low-hanging hoodie, sunglasses, and a scarf that covered his face up to the bottom of his nose. He would put these items on or take them off depending on whether he was involved in a hand.

Naturally, this prompted many questions by viewers, with one viewer posting a screenshot of the player on Reddit and asking for other fans’ opinions. Some said that this was just a part of poker culture, and the viewer should not really worry about this. Meanwhile, other commentators suggested that they would not be surprised to see someone coming to a WSOP tournament wearing a full body suit or even a clown costume.

While wearing accessories like sunglasses remains a staple of many poker events, full-face coverings still remain a subject of discussion both in pro, amateur, and fan circles.
