Woman Wins Lottery – Donates Entire Sum to Charities
The lucky soul decided to do the Christian thing and donated her entire lottery prize to various charities
A Virginia woman has won big from the lottery, securing a $150,000 payday, but instead of reveling in the money herself, she decided to share the full amount with several charities.
Identified as Carrie Edwards, the lucky winner guessed five numbers plus the Powerball number during the September 8 drawing, securing the six-figure prize. Immediately, she decided to part with the money and give it over to charity instead.
Woman Decides to Donate Away Her Lottery Prize Money
She has split the money into even sums of $50,000 and donated to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration first. The organization supports research and education, as well as providing family resources for people who are affected by early-onset dementia. This is a homage to Edwards’ late husband, who passed away because of dementia.
The cause, she argued, is deeply personal, and she took the chance to contribute to a meaningful and impactful initiative, part of the broader World FTD Awareness Month.
“I wanted this gift to shine a light on the families who are fighting this disease and on the researchers working toward a cure. God is blessing me so I can bless others through him,” Edwards explained.
Shalom Farms was the second recipient of the prize. The organization works for an equitable food system in Richmond. A third tranche of the prize will be allocated to the Navy-Marine Relief Society, which provides financial, educational, and emergency assistance to active-duty service members, veterans, and their families.
One of the disorders that military personnel have been increasingly affected by is gambling, which has been omnipresent amongst servicemen and women.
