Vietnamese Police Save Two Chinese Nationals Kidnapped after Casino Romp
Vietnamese police acted swiftly in the case of a kidnapping that happened after a pair of Chinese nationals racked up debt with local loan sharks
Two Chinese nationals were rescued by Vietnamese police. Officers were responding to the latest incident involving foreign nationals who had been kidnapped from a local casino.
According to official reports, the pair of nationals – two men – had racked up a significant debt with one of the luxury casinos in the country, resulting in their kidnapping.
Mixing Up with the Wrong Crowd When Gambling
Wang Xiaoci and Li Yao Zong went on a bit of a romp at the Hoiana Casino in Quang Nam Province earlier in September, borrowing hundreds of thousands of yuan to sustain their habit, but not able to repay the money.
When they were unable to repay, the borrowers kidnapped them and said that they had to ask their families for money, or they would be killed. The Chinese government usually gets involved in such cases, but in this case, the men’s friend, who saw the kidnapping, notified the Vietnamese police.
Officers moved quickly and were able to identify the location where Wang and Li had been taken to, staging a raid and arresting five people, the supposed borrowers of the money, which included one Chinese national.
Officers said that this case only demonstrated the dangers of cross-border gambling and urged visitors to be cautious of people who offer them lines of credit that are not officially extended by the casinos.
