The baby-faced British is going to walk up against one of the toughest fighters in the promotion – Justin Goethje, whose track record has been a little all over the place in recent years, but who has delivered consistently. 

Now, the American will brave a fitting opponent with Paddy Pimblett, a similarly seasoned fighter with very few losses under his belt. The bout promises to be a good show, no matter who wins, but there is clearly a lot of betting action riding on this one.

Can Gaethje Put in the Work to Win?

Gaethje is coming into the fight as the clear underdog, with the fighter sporting a long track record at 26-5-0 and running (+205) in the odds. He is also a little older than Pimblett, with his 37 years, but the two fighters measure pretty evenly across most of their other attributes.

The reason why Pimblett is priced (-240) favorite right now is quite evident- he has been on a tear since 2020. After losing his last fight to Soren Bak by Unanimous Decision, Pimblett went on a break and put in the work.

He returned to take on Decky Dalton in March 2020 and has been undefeated, his longest winning streak. Before his loss to Nad Narimani in 2017, Pimblett was set to break a 10-fight winning streak, but he couldn’t. This is why defeating Goethje is personally important to him.

What about the American, then? There are a lot of compliments to pay to Goethje, with his easy-going demeanor, sportsmanship, and robust performance. Age may indeed be the deciding factor here, however. 

Goethje fought and lost to both Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira, and Khabib Nurmagomedov over his 11 fights. This means that he has lost 8 compared to Pimblett’s 9, but he did fight some of the best fighters in the league. 

Goethje has one real weakness here – his track record on submission. He just struggles with it. If he can keep beyond Pimblett’s grappling, though, Goethje could yet outscore or even KO the Brit, which is what we are betting on for this one.
