Titus to Push FAIR Bet Act at Vegas Tax Reform Hearing
Rep. Dina Titus is getting ready to discuss her FAIR Bet Act during an upcoming field hearing scheduled for Friday in Las Vegas

Nevada Rep. Dina Titus, who added two new cosponsors to her bipartisan FAIR BET Act earlier this week, will be seizing a rare opportunity this Friday, when the powerful House Ways and Means Committee will bring a field hearing to Las Vegas to promote the recent Trump-backed tax overhaul.
Hearing with Pre-Approved Witnesses Only
The hearing has been set for 10 a.m. at YESCO, an electric signs manufacturing shop in Sin City, as revealed by Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (R-Missouri).
Only witnesses who have been previously approved will be allowed to testify. However, members of the public are also invited to send their written comments that could make it into the printed version of the hearing.
The official Ways and Means online platform will broadcast the hearing live. Plus, the meeting will also be open to the public, with specific space limitations.
While the announced purpose of the hearing is to shed light on the way the so-called “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” will benefit working families, for Titus, it will be the perfect opportunity to discuss an important piece of the law that has sparked plenty of backlash from gamblers and the gaming industry alike.
Namely, the controversial provision that limits how much professional and casual gamblers can deduct in losses. The law, tucked into the sweeping tax changes, cuts that deduction from 100% down to 90%, potentially leaving high-volume players with a tax bill even if they lost money overall.
“We Need to Fix This Before It Does Serious Harm”
Titus, a longtime advocate for Nevada’s gaming sector, introduced the FAIR Bet Act (H.R. 4303) just three days after the bill was signed into law. Her goal was to repeal the deduction cap and restore the previous standard.
“We need to fix this before it does serious harm to the gaming community,” Titus has said in prior comments. While her bill hasn’t been scheduled for a hearing yet, the Las Vegas event gives her a timely platform to rally support.
While the committee’s stated goal is to highlight the benefits of the tax package, the change affecting gamblers is shaping up to be one of its most hotly debated elements.
Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto also tried to roll back the deduction change with her own version of a fix, introduced July 10 in the Senate. Her attempt to fast-track the bill through unanimous consent was blocked, meaning it will now go through regular Senate procedures.
In a tweet on X, Titus noted: “You know the FAIR BET Act has made it when two prediction markets I am trying to shut down are offering odds on its passage.”
On Saturday, the same committee has scheduled a similar hearing in Simi Valley, California, to discuss the bill’s impact on small businesses and farmers.
