Sweden Nominates New Svenska Spel Chair & Board Members
In addition to nominating Sjöstedt as chair, the government also nominated the election of two new board members and the re-election of five existing ones
Svenska Spel, Sweden’s state-owned gambling operator, unveiled a number of board nominations. The government proposed the appointment of a new chair, two new members, and the re-election of five others.
Eva-Lotta Sjöstedt Nominated as Chair
According to Svenska Spel’s official announcement, the government has decided to nominate the experienced Eva-Lotta Sjöstedt as chairwoman of Svenska Spel’s board of directors.
According to Svenska Spel, Sjöstedt is an experienced executive with many years of international corporate experience. She has served a variety of companies across multiple different industries and is currently sitting on the boards of directors of several companies.
At the moment, Sjöstedt is a board member of the Finnish telecom company Elisa Oy and German Metro AG, one of the world’s largest wholesalers of groceries. In addition to that, she is a non-executive director and chair of the ESG Committee at Alliance Pharmaceuticals Limited.
Her prior experience includes leading positions within Ikea in Sweden, Japan, and the Netherlands. She has also served as chief executive officer of the Danish design company Georg Jensen and is the founder of the KUNO Leadership Community.
The Government Nominated Two New Members
In addition to nominating Sjöstedt as chair, the government also nominated the election of two new board members and the re-election of five existing ones.
The members nominated for election include Anna Gagner-Geeber and Johan Wilsby. In the meantime, the government nominated Eivor Andersson, Stefan Berg, Gunilla Herlitz, Nyamko Sabuni, and Anne Arneby for re-election.
Svenska Spel added that its 2025 Annual General Meeting will be held on April 24 in Visby.
Svenska Spel’s Gaming Revenue Is Mostly Healthy
Last month, Svenska Spel posted its healthy revenue share for the fourth quarter of 2024. This initiative remains a part of the company’s continued commitment to transparency and safer gambling.
According to Svenska Spel, 93.9% of its revenue for Q4 was healthy. Although this figure has experienced some fluctuations over the past few years, Svenska Spel has remained bullish on ensuring that as many customers as possible enjoy gaming safely.
Anna Johnson, the operator’s prez and CEO said that the company’s responsible gaming measures have had a positive effect on the business and its healthy revenue share.
BOS Asks Government to Privatize Svenska Spel
In the meantime, Svenska Spel continues to face criticism for its state-owned status. Once a gaming monopoly, the company is currently a part of a broader and more liberal regulated market.
The Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS) has continued to urge the government to divest its stake in Svenska Spel, saying that the ownership presents a conflict of interest and erodes trust in the government’s role as an unbiased regulator.
