Round-the-clock Gambling Center Coming to Worksop
Local opposition was not enough to thwart the plans for a new 24-hour gambling center that locals worry will lead to social ills

A new round-the-clock gambling center is arriving in Worksop, the United Kingdom, with the company behind it – Applicant Champion Gaming Ltd – winning the approval of local authorities to introduce the venue and launch it in the near future. Final plans have yet to be approved, but this is expected to pass without administrative opposition.
New Adult Gaming Center Raises Heckles from Locals
The idea is to convert a former Greenwoods clothing store in Bridge Street into an adult gaming center, which has been given the green light from the council and comes despite 26 objections lodged by town residents who have expressed concern over how such a venue may impact the local economy, morals and financial well-being of individuals.
Among the concerns cited by people are noise and introducing gambling to what is a “deprived area,” which is historically tied to a higher incidence of problem gambling. Applicant Champion Gaming Ltd has addressed at least some of these concerns, arguing that it would ensure that the property is insulated in a way that blocks out the noise from inside and ensures that unwitting citizens are not disturbed.
The Bassetlaw District Council, though, sought to assuage these fears by arguing that the council had indeed run a feasibility study that indicated that opening the adult gaming center would, in fact, drive the economy up and create jobs, as well as drive more people into town, boosting the economy indirectly.
Yet, plans are still subject to final approval. The ground floor will be decked out with electronic gaming machines, whereas the first floor will serve as offices and storage spaces.
