Powerball Jackpot Reaches $45M for Tonight’s Drawing
While no one won the jackpot, one ticket-holder from California came close after matching all five white numbers except the Powerball, winning $2.2 million instead
The Powerball jackpot survived the Saturday drawing and has continued to grow as today’s drawing looms. With a few hours remaining until the winning numbers are drawn, players are eagerly waiting to see if any of them will win the $45 million jackpot.
Powerball Jackpot Survived Saturday Drawing, Player Claimed $2.2M Prize
The Powerball jackpot has continued to grow due to the fact that no player managed to match all six winning numbers for the drawing that took place on Saturday, April 11. This isn’t all too surprising, however, since the previous jackpot landed only a few drawings ago.
For reference, the winning numbers for the April 11 drawing were 6, 47, 49, 53, and 60, plus the red Powerball 6. The Power Play modifier for that drawing was 2x.
If a player had succeeded in matching all six winning numbers, they would have experienced a$36 million windfall ($16.4 million if they won and chose the one-time payment option). While this did not happen, one ticket-holder from California came close after matching all five white numbers except the Powerball. As a result, they won the Match 5 prize of $1 million. However, per the California Lottery pari-mutuel rules, the player will take home $2.2 million instead.
At the same time, a whopping fifteen players matched four white numbers plus the Powerball, netting nine of them $50,000 each. The remaining six will take home $100,000 instead, thanks to the Power Play feature.
Since Powerball’s top prize wasn’t won, it has now reached $45 million for tonight’s drawing. The cash value of the jackpot has been estimated to be at $20.5 million.
Delaware Player Took the Previous Top Prize
The previous Powerball jackpot was won only a few drawings ago when a lucky player in Delaware matched all six winning numbers to win a life-changing $231 million prize. In addition to that, the drawing awarded a $2 million March 5 prize to a Texan who had the Power Play feature active.
In other lottery news, the Nary Lim Living Trust of Lowell recently won a mouth-watering $4 million top prize from one of the Massachusetts Lottery’s scratch-off games. What made the win special was the fact that this was the last such prize remaining in the $4,000,000 Gold 50X game. Things got even more interesting as a representative of the trust that won opted for the annuity option rather than the lump sum.
