Pennsylvania Gaming Revenue Tops $600M in May 2025

The standout figure was fueled by significant surges in both online gaming and sports wagering

Pennsylvania’s gaming industry has hit a new high, bringing in over $600 million in a single month for the first time ever. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reports that total gaming and fantasy contest revenue for May 2025 reached $601.8 million, a 15.5% jump from the same month last year.

Digital Surge Powers PA Gaming to Historic High

The eye-catching number was due to big gains in online gaming and sports betting. Digital casino games by themselves brought in over $232.8 million, a 33.8% rise from May 2024. Among online operators, Hollywood Casino at Penn National and Valley Forge Casino Resort stood out, adding $90.1 million and $64.1 million to the iGaming total.

Sports betting also grew a lot. The total betting handle for May hit $655.3 million, while taxable revenue from sportsbooks went up 34.4% year-over-year to $59.4 million. Valley Forge again led here, making $28.4 million, with Hollywood Casino at the Meadows next at $15.7 million.

Regular casino gaming at physical locations showed a mix of ups and downs. Slot machines kept pulling in money, making $224.9 million, which was 5% more than last year. This happened even though there were fewer machines running. Parx Casino led the pack in slot earnings, raking in $34.5 million, up 5.8% from the previous year.

On the flip side, table games at brick-and-mortar casinos took a hit. They dropped by 4.6% to $79.9 million. While most places saw a decrease, a couple of spots bucked the trend. Mount Airy Casino Resort and Rivers Casino Philadelphia saw their numbers go up in this area.

Hollywood and Valley Forge Drive Gains as VGTs Stay Steady and Fantasy Contests Slip

Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops showed consistent performance, generating $3.68 million in revenue, almost the same as the previous year. Fantasy sports contests, however, experienced a slight decrease in revenue to $1.09 million.

Looking at individual operators, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course and Valley Forge Casino Resort both reported big increases in year-over-year revenue — 31.2% and 33% respectively. These two casinos alone brought in more than $213 million in combined revenue.

Tax payments to the state from all gambling types reached over $255 million in the month. The PGCB keeps watch over activities at 17 brick-and-mortar casinos, internet gambling, sports wagering, and other forms like VGTs and fantasy competitions.

As online platforms have an impact on growth, Pennsylvania’s gambling scene looks set to grow more through 2025 and in the years after.
