Payton Talbott Hoping to Get Back on the Winning Track
Just as his popularity started to increase, Payton Talbott suffered his first career loss. And it was a bad one. This happened in January when he lost a 3-round bout with Raoni Barcelos.
Payton Talbott was completely unprepared for the chain wrestling of Raoni Barcelos. The Brazilian's first takedown was brilliant as he flowed through Talbott's defenses. #UFC311 pic.twitter.com/sCCJt4stjI

The man who previously finished eight of his last nine opponents looked horrible in that fight. Barcelos completely rag-dolled him, landing 8 takedowns and attempting two submissions. He also landed more significant strikes than Talbott, which is strange as high-volume striking is Talbott’s trademark.
This guy’s averaging 6.73 significant strikes a minute, which is among the highest numbers in the UFC, but his punches and kicks didn’t do much against Barcelos. He’ll need to do much, much better in his UFC 317 fight, in which he’s locking horns with a guy who’s not too dissimilar to Barcelos.
Felipe Lima’s Odds Suggest He’ll Win at UFC 317
Fighting out of Manaus in the State of Amazonas, Brazil, Felipe Lima is known as “Jungle Boy.” While he’s got no significant connection with Raoni Barcelos, the two do share some similarities.
Not only are they both Brazilian, but they both pack a lot of power and stamina. They both land a lot of strikes in every fight, as well as make roughly two TDs per 15 minutes. Barcelos is a much better grappler, but Lima too knows how to put opponents to submission. In fact, he beat Muhammad Naimov by a rear-naked choke on his UFC debut.
Our prediction is that he’s going to try to replicate Barcelos’ performance and grind out a win at UFC 317. It won’t be easy, though. Firstly, he’s not at Raoni’s level (yet). Secondly, we think Talbott has learned his lesson from that defeat.
Payton Talbott vs. Felipe Lima Prediction
Talbott did get embarrassed in his last outing, but if he wants to become a champ in the future, he needs to bounce back ASAP. The UFC 317 fight is a huge test for him, but we think he’s going to pass. Our prediction is that he’ll set up a trap for Lima, let him try to make a takedown, and punish him with a powerful punch/kick.
Pick: Payton Talbott by KO/TKO
