North Carolina Woman Wins $768K, Will Buy Home Next

A woman from Winston-Salem has won the grand prize playing the North Carolina Education Lottery, scooping up $768,201 off a single $3 ticket. 

The woman, who chose to remain anonymous but was happy to share her feelings about the win, said that she was completely dumbfounded when the lottery win occurred.

Small Accidental Play Turns into Life-Altering Win 

She took a while to realize that she had indeed won, claiming the life-altering amount and opting for a $553,183 lump sum payment instead of the annuity option.

“I didn’t know if it was real. I was in shock,” she told the lottery. The Wheel of Fortune digital instant game allows players to win jackpots in real time and at any time. As soon as an entry is bought, a result is produced, offering a chance for a large win.

The game is also pretty flexible when it comes to its betting limits, with anything between $0.50 to $30 considered to be a fitting entry. However, the odds of winning the grand prize are pretty slim, set at 1 in 16.6 million, making the latest winner’s feat all the more impressive. 

As of Thursday morning, the jackpot had already exceeded $400,000 and continues to scale. As to the winner, she already has plans for the money and will be buying a home.

This is not the first time someone from North Carolina won big off a small ticket. Just days ago, another resident won $1 million after purchasing a $2 ticket from Fast Phil’s on Charlotte Highway in Mooresville.
