Nigeria Launches Safeplay Self-Exclusion Tool to Combat Addiction
The African nation has become the latest to roll out a national solution meant to tackle gambling-related harm head-on
Nigeria, one of the largest countries in Africa and one of its biggest gambling markets, has launched a new national self-exclusion portal, SafePlay, which is designed to help educate consumers about the dangers of excessive gambling, but also equip them with the tools necessary to steer away from gambling-related harm.
Nigeria Launches Self-Exclusion Portal and Supporting Services
The portal was launched with the help of the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority, which wants to ensure that consumers are protected. During a meeting at the Regen Luxury Suites, Ikeja, Lagos, industry representatives discussed the good that the initiative is meant to bring to the market, particularly in protecting consumers from gambling-related harm.
The portal is meant to not only provide players with the option to self-exclude but also steer them towards different resources that specialize in ensuring their ongoing recovery.
In other words, the portal will feature various support links and contacts of organizations and tools that are specifically tailored to deal with gambling-related harm and help onboard problematic gamblers into programs and initiatives that help them not just insulate themselves from gambling but also actively seek to address the core issue that drives their behavior.
Nigeria is no short of privately operated tools; however, with one of the most prominent options BetBlocker – a free tool that is localized and is meant to help vulnerable consumers quickly exclude themselves from harmful practices. With Nigeria still a rapidly growing market, the relevance of self-exclusion markets is only bound to increase.
