New York Upstate Resident Claims $5M Scratch-off Lottery Prize

The lucky player turned a scratch-off ticket into the payout of a lifetime, securing a grand prize from the lottery

A New York upstate resident secured what is his biggest lottery win yet – a $5-million top prize from the 200 Extra, a scratch-off game.

The New York Lottery reported that one Daniel Jeffries of Troy has already stepped forward to claim the reward, and has opted for the lump sum payment – $2,200, 386 in this case, after all applicable state and federal taxes.

Jeffries’ win was quite ordinary, as he didn’t put another thought into buying the scratcher. He snagged the ticket at Stewart’s Shops on 10 Sweetmilk Creek Road in Troy, and just like that, the ticket proved to be carrying a seven-figure prize tag.

The lottery did not provide any further details about the win, nor was there an official statement by the winner himself. This is not the only time NY state residents won from the lottery.

Two longtime Bronx residents, Roseanne Serricchio and Walter Diaz, claimed the top prize in the New York Lottery’s Million Dollar Raffle Game earlier this year.

The winners have opted to each receive a lump sum of $306,120 after federal and state taxes, a significant windfall that could make a meaningful difference in their lives.

While smaller than the enormous multi-state jackpots that occasionally dominate headlines, this prize is still enough to transform daily life for most lottery players.
