Will Home Turf Advantage Help Monterrey on December 15?
Monterrey finished the regular season of the 2024 Liga MX Apertura with a 9-4-4 record and a 26:19 score difference. They finished in the 5th spot, which meant that they had to play against the 4th-placed UNAM Pumas in the first round of the Playoffs. They beat them 1:0 at home, then went on to destroy them on the road, 5:3.
In the semifinal of the Playoffs, they lost to Atletico San Luis on the road 2:1 but then demolished them at home 5:1, showing that they’re incredible on home turf.
That was their fourth straight win at home, as well as the eighth time in a row that they weren’t defeated at Estadio BBVA Bancomer in Monterrey. In fact, these guys only lost four home games in 2024.
But they still haven’t played against Club America in Monterrey this year. The last time they welcomed the boys from the capital was in October 2023, when we saw Club America winning 3:0.
Club America Looking Like a Real World-Beater
Club America’s 2024 roster looks really powerful, with at least one great option for every position on the field. The best thing about this team is that its players have plenty of experience with big games.
Players like Alex Zendejas, Alvaro Fidalgo, and Rodrigo Aguirre are in their prime. Add to that the stability that veterans like Jonathan dos Santos and Henry Martin bring to the table, and you’ll realize why this team is just one step away from winning the title.
These guys have been playing pretty good soccer, leading Club America to four wins in the last five games. What’s interesting is that they’ve been pretty good on the road, scoring a total of 13 goals in their last five away games.
Monterrey vs. Club America Prediction
After losing the first game of the 2024 Liga MX Apertura Finals, Monterrey have no other option but to go into full-offense mode.
With players like Sergio Canales and German Berterame, they look almost certain to score. Unfortunately, Lucas Ocampos will probably miss this game with an injury, but they’ll have to cope without him.
If they manage to score – which we predict they will – Club America will then have to fight back. And these guys have incredibly lethal offense, so we’re almost 100% certain they’ll find the net too. In fact, we think they’ll do it a couple of times, just enough to win this game.
