MGM Partners With Flavor Flav to Honor the US Women’s Hockey Team in Vegas

MGM Resorts International revealed that it will be partnering up with rap star Flavor Flav in hosting a Las Vegas celebration this summer honoring the champion US women’s Olympic hockey team.

MGM Resorts International and Flavor Flav Announce Collaboration

The Hall of Fame rapper revealed on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday that he will host a “She Got Game” weekend from July 16–19 in collaboration with MGM Resorts International to celebrate the US women’s hockey team and other female athletes. The 66-year-old performer, a founding member of the trailblazing hip-hop group Public Enemy, is a longtime advocate for women’s sports.

Flavor Flav invited the team to Las Vegas for what he described as a “real celebration,” complete with dinners and live shows. The invitation followed soon after the women’s team chose not to attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday.

President Trump extended his invitation late Sunday during a locker room call, congratulating the men’s team on its 2–1 overtime win against Canada. The women’s team had also defeated Canada by the same score in overtime three days earlier.

Meanwhile, MGM Resorts said in a statement that planning is already in progress and explained that further details will be announced soon.  The company promised to honor Team USA’s outstanding athletes with the signature blend of world-class hospitality, high-energy entertainment, and unforgettable experiences for which MGM Resorts International is known. It added that women-led sports media outlet The GIST will also participate as an official partner.

In other MGM Resorts news, the company has posted strong Q4 results for last year, reflecting the continual development of its widening portfolio. Bill Hornbuckle, chief executive of MGM Resorts International, expressed satisfaction with the results, crediting the company’s diversified operating strategy for the performance, adding that he remains highly optimistic about its prospects.

Others Also Want to Help the Women’s Team

Palms Casino Resort has pledged “over-the-top” luxury suites and fine-dining experiences to complement those offered by MGM Resorts International. Alaska Airlines also responded to Flavor Flav’s request for travel support, confirming it is coordinating flights to bring the athletes to Las Vegas. StubHub joined in on social media as well, saying it would be “happy to help with tickets to shows.”

To provide the athletes with more than just a celebratory weekend, Flavor Flav launched a GoFundMe campaign on Thursday aimed at delivering direct financial “victory bonuses.” Acknowledging that many Olympians balance second or even third jobs to support their training, he set a $50,000 fundraising target to put cash directly into their hands.
