MGA Revokes Oddsfly’s License Over Years of Unpaid Fees

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has formally cancelled Oddsfly’s operating license, citing ongoing violations of financial and regulatory requirements of Maltese gaming legislation as the main reason for its actions.

Malta Gaming Authority Calls Out Oddsfly

The MGA’s decision comes after Oddsfly failed to pay a total of €104,814.52 (about $118,000) in annual license and compliance contribution fees, dating back to 2018. According to the Maltese regulator, the company neglected to pay license fees for three consecutive years, from 2018 to 2020, totaling €75,000 (roughly $85,000). Oddsfly also accrued an additional €29,814.52 (about $34,000) in overdue compliance contributions as of August 2018, according to the gambling regulator.

It should be noted that the Authority noted that the issues which led to the original suspension of the license in 2018 remained unresolved. The license, issued under reference MGA/B2C/260/2014, was officially suspended on 7 August 2018.

The MGA said in an official statement that it has reached its decision following a process where it considered multiple important factors. These include the fact that Oddsfly has failed to fulfill one or more applicable obligations under relevant regulatory instruments. In addition, Oddsfly has failed to make timely payments of all amounts owed to the Authority. Furthermore, the Authority, at its sole discretion, has concluded that there is substantial and sufficient justification for suspending the authorization.

It could be argued that the Authority’s decision follows its recent trends regarding stricter enforcement of gambling laws in the country. In February, the MGA significantly changed its gambling oversight, posting several goals for 2025. These include enhancing collaboration with gambling operators, allocating resources based on new risk assessment, and taking proactive measures to manage that risk, among many others.

What Will Happen with Oddsfly Now?

According to an official statement by the MGA, if Oddsfly fails to respond within the specified timeframe and/or to rectify its position in line with the applicable legal requirements, the Authority will proceed with the license cancellation, along with any additional enforcement actions it deems necessary.

This notice is issued without prejudice to any further regulatory or legal steps the Authority may take. Should the Authorised Person fail to address the situation appropriately, the Authority explicitly reserves the right to initiate additional proceedings or enforcement measures concerning the outstanding amounts owed.
