Mega Millions Jackpot Reaches Its Eighth-Highest Sum
The current prize has been growing since the previous Mega Millions jackpot, which was won by a player in Virginia on June 27 and stood at $348 million
The Mega Millions jackpot has once again evaded players and is now nearing the monumental threshold of $1 billion. As of the time of this writing, the jackpot is standing at $900 million, with the next drawing set to take place within several hours.
The Jackpot Is Nearing the $1B Mark
The Mega Millions jackpot has now reached its eighth-largest sum since the start of the game in 2002. As mentioned, the game’s grand prize is currently standing at $900 million, with a lump sum value of $415.3 million.
Officials added that this is the third time the jackpot has reached this level since the current game record of $1.6 billion, which was won by a player in Florida on August 8, 2023.
Following that, the jackpot reached comparable sums twice. The first was on March 26, 2024, when it reached $1.1 billion and was won by a player in New Jersey. On December 27 that same year, a separate player won almost $1.3 billion.
The current prize has been growing since the previous Mega Millions jackpot, which was won by a player in Virginia on June 27 and stood at $348 million.
The previous drawing took place on Friday, November 7. At that time, the jackpot was standing at $843 million, with a cash value of $391.7 million. In addition to failing to elect a winner, that drawing crowned no winner of a seven-figure sum as no one succeeded in matching all five white numbers. However, there were still 16 winners of prizes ranging from $20,000 to $100,000. According to officials, there were 688,058 winning tickets across all prize tiers.
Mega Millions Jackpot Remains Elusive, But Players Still Win Big
In the meantime, a Cash 5 player in Pennsylvania just won a life-changing prize of $870K. The numbers that won were 1, 20, 25, 38, and 40. However, as of the time of this writing, the player’s identity remains unknown.
Elsewhere, a player from Illinois won $1 million from a holiday scratch-off ticket. The lucky person, who admitted they were a big fan of holiday-themed lottery games, won the mouth-watering sum from the $1,000,000 Holiday Gold scratch-off game. In an interview with lottery officials, the winner said that they plan to give half of their winnings to their mother.
