Maryland Casino Revenue Dips in June as Fiscal Year Ends

This decline comes after a stronger performance in May, when statewide revenue increased by 1.9% to $176.4 million. Gaming contributions to the state from June activity totaled $68.54 million, representing a 1.9% drop year-on-year. Of that amount, $49.42 million was directed to the Education Trust Fund , which is a decrease of $954,000 compared to June 2024.

It should be noted that June 30 marked the close of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming’s 2025 fiscal year. Total casino revenue for FY2025 topped $1.8 billion, reflecting a modest 0.5% increase. This slight growth was driven by strong results earlier in the year, including a peak in May when MGM National Harbor reported $75.4 million in revenue, up 4.3% compared to May 2024.

It’s also important to know that Maryland’s casino revenues support a range of sectors beyond education, including local governments, the horse racing industry, and small, minority- and women-owned businesses. As July ushers in a new fiscal year, state regulators and stakeholders will be closely watching performance trends to determine whether broader economic and seasonal factors will continue to influence casino revenue in the latter half of 2025.

Casino & Hotel, which are also the largest gambling properties in the state, both posted declines in June. MGM National Harbor generated $67.17 million in revenue, a 1.4% decrease, while Live! Casino experienced a 2.4% drop to $58.96 million.

In contrast, Ocean Downs Casino saw a 4.3% revenue increase, reaching $8.48 million. Horseshoe Casino reported a modest uptick of 0.8% to $14.22 million. Revenue at Rocky Gap Casino remained steady, while Hollywood Casino Perryville recorded a 3.7% decline.
