UFC 318 Odds Suggest Marvin Vettori Is Heading for Another Loss

The Italian middleweight holds a 19-8-1 record, with the most impressive fact being that none of those eight losses came by knockout or submission. Every single defeat went the distance, which is proof that Vettori is as tough as they come.

He’s got a great resume, but things haven’t looked great for him lately. The thing is that 50% of those eight losses happened in the past four years. Vettori’s downfall started with a title shot against Israel Adesanya that didn’t go his way.

He briefly moved up to light heavyweight and beat Paulo Costa by decision – a guy who’s also fighting at UFC 318. We urge you to read our Costa vs. Kopylov preview, especially if you’re after plus-money odds.

It was a nice wins for Vettori, but but that momentum didn’t last. Back at middleweight, he’s gone 1-3, most recently losing a rematch to Roman Dolidze in March – who got revenge after Vettori beat him in 2023.

Dolidze won the fight by out-striking Vettori. The same happened against Jared Cannonier – who landed 241 significant strikes in five rounds – as well as against Robert Whittaker.

Brendan Allen Hoping to End His Two-Fight Skid

Brendan Allen is one of the most talented middleweights, which explains why he’s 11th in the division. He could get even higher in the rankings if he starts winning again. The American is 24-7 overall with two straight losses, which ended his seven-fight winning run.

During his winning streak, we saw him defeat Paul Craig, Bruno Silva, Andre Muniz, Krzysztof Jotko, and Sam Alvey by submission, showing that he’s one of the most dangerous grapplers in the middleweight division.

But then, Nassourdine Imavov put an end to his run with a decision win last September. It was a somewhat boring fight that the Frenchman won by landing more strikes. Allen’s most recent fight – against Anthony Hernandez – wasn’t much more exciting either.

Allen lost the fight by decision mostly due to suffering four TDs and failing to do much grappling-wise.

Marvin Vettori vs. Brendan Allen Prediction

Based on what we’ve seen from Brendan Allen in the past, if the fight turns into a snooze fest, he ends up on the losing end. The American needs to risk more and aim for a submission win or a KO.

The good news for him is that Vettori is a very hittable fighter. He also doesn’t have as great grappling skills as Allen. But he’s tough as nails, so finishing him won’t be easy. Our prediction is that he’ll survive the first two rounds, but Allen will find a way to finish him near the end of the fight.

Pick: Brendan Allen in Round 3
