Liverpool Playing in Jota’s Honor
Liverpool is the defending Premier League champion, as well as a team with a very good record against Bournemouth (9 wins and 1 loss in the last 10 meetings). All of that makes the Reds huge favorites by default. However, ahead of the first game of the 2025-26 season, they have another motivation to do well.
This is going to be their first competitive game since the death of Diogo Jota, who was one of their key men the previous season. His best buddies from this roster – Dominik Szoboszlai, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and others – are expected to go an extra mile as a sort of homage to their late friend.

Speaking of those guys, we’re used to seeing them perform at a top level, but in the 2025-26 EPL, Liverpool have some new faces. The biggest addition is Florian Wirtz, a playmaker who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen and who’s considered one of the best German players in the last couple of decades.
His former Bayer teammate, Jeremie Frimpong, has also arrived, with the intention of making Liverpool’s midfield even stronger than before. Further, another former Bundesliga forward has also made Anfield his new home. The man in question is Hugo Ekitike, a Frenchman famous for his speed and agility. The Reds have also improved pace on the flanks with the addition of ex-Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.
Should Bournemouth Expect Anything from the August 15 Clash?
Last season, despite having their shiny moments, Bournemouth finished in 9th place. That’s not bad at all, but it’s more because other EPL teams struggled (e.g., Man United, Tottenham, etc.) rather than them being great.
Their standout player last season was Kerkez, but he’s now playing for Liverpool. They signed Adrien Truffert from Rennes as his replacement, but he’s got big shoes to fill.
In the offseason, we also saw them sign goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea. The reason behind this was that their last season’s goalie, Kepa Arrizabalaga, has moved to Arsenal.
Liverpool vs. Bournemouth Prediction
Liverpool defeated Bournemouth nine times in their last 10 meetings. We’re certain the Reds will do it again. They’ve always been better than the Cherries, and in 2025, Bournemouth’s squad looks worse than before.
Plus, the Reds are super-motivated to win, so expect them to do it with a high margin. If we had to guess the correct score, we’d go with either 3:0 or 4:0, but even 5:0 or more wouldn’t surprise us.
