Las Vegas Jury Finds “Dances With Wolves” Actor Guilty on Sexual Assault Charges
After an 11 day trial a Nevada jury found a former “Dances With Wolves” actor guilty of sexually assaulting a minor
A former “Dances With Wolves” actor has been convicted by a Las Vegas jury on sexual assault charges.
Following a trial that lasted a year and three weeks, Nathan Chasing Horse, a 49-year-old former actor, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor. The investigation followed allegations from two underage victims.
Several other women who had also been sexually assaulted by the actor came forward to testify. Chasing Horse has been found guilty on 13 counts.
Out of the 21 charges that had been brought up against him initially, he has been acquitted of 8; these include kidnapping a minor, a separate count of sexual assault, use of a minor in producing pornography, and one count of visual depiction of sexual misconduct with a child.
Chasing Horse reportedly stood silently as the verdict was being read. During this, the victims and their loved ones began weeping and hugging one another in the hallway.
The date for Chasing Horse’s sentencing is set for March 11, and he is looking at at least 25 years in prison.
Taking Advantage of People
Following his role in the Oscar-winning film “Dances With Wolves,” Chasing Horse had taken up the persona of a Lakota medicine man and would pretend to perform healing ceremonies to prey on women and young girls.
According to the testimony of one of his victims, back in 2012, he had lied that to heal her mother’s cancer, “the spirits” demanded she give up her virginity; at the time, she had been 14 years old.
After the assault, Chasing Horse, according to the girl, scared her into believing that her mother would die if she told anyone what had happened.
Prosecutors stated that the assault continued for years afterwards.
Facing Charges for Another Victim
In 2023, during a police raid, videos of Chasing Horse abusing a victim were discovered in a locked safe.
The recordings are estimated to have been made around 2010-2011, when the victim would have been around 13 years old.
In 2024, these findings were used in order to refile charges that had originally been dismissed by the Nevada Supreme Court due to a failure to follow legal rules.
