Las Vegas’ Cosmopolitan Is Selling Off Ice-Skating Ring

When The Cosmopolitan’s ice rink was open, guests could take to the ice while Christmas music filled the air, enjoying sweeping views of the Las Vegas Strip from the rooftop rink

Since 2011, The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas has transformed its fourth-floor Boulevard Tower pool into a 4,200-square-foot rooftop ice rink, complete with real ice, fire pits, snow showers, and themed cocktails, creating a festive winter wonderland for the holiday season. Unfortunately for longtime fans of this tradition, this year the popular seasonal attraction will be no more, as the hotel will not be opening its ice rink.

Cosmopolitan Closes Iconic Ice-Skating Rink

First reported by the “Five Hundy by Midnight” podcast, it appears that the casino is ending the yearly tradition. Indeed, The Cosmopolitan has not only decided it would not open the iconic ice-skating venue, but it will also put up many of its accoutrements for sale.

The opening is typically announced between October 25 and November 5, with the rink debuting around Thanksgiving weekend. According to the listing, the setup, which is currently stored in a Las Vegas warehouse, requires approximately five semi-trailers to transport.

The auction also includes the rink walls, a complete temporary plumbing system for the antifreeze used to create the ice, furniture, skates, chairs and benches, plastic reindeer, and much more. Interestingly, the offer even included a Zamboni, which, according to the listing, runs but needs some maintenance.

It should also be noted that the auction site stipulates that the “system cannot be sold/utilized within Clark County, NV,” likely a way for The Cosmopolitan to not let competitor casinos open an ice-skating rink on their behalf. During the past few years, Fontainebleau Las Vegas has been the Cosmopolitan’s only competitor when it came to opening seasonal ice rinks. The resort used to cover its third-floor pool deck with its own 7,500-foot Oasis Ice Rink, and it looks like this year, it will be the only such venue to operate in Clark County.

When The Cosmopolitan’s ice rink was open, guests could take to the ice while Christmas music filled the air, enjoying sweeping views of the Las Vegas Strip from the rooftop rink. After skating, visitors could have relaxed in Adirondack chairs around custom fire pits. Adults were able to sip on seasonal cocktails that featured traditional flavors of pumpkin, rum, chocolate, marshmallows, and more.

Throughout the season, the Ice Rink used to host themed nights to keep the festivities going. Couples were able to enjoy “Mondays Date Skate,” which featured holiday movies projected on the hotel’s 65-foot digital marquee. Meanwhile, “Throwback Thursdays” invited skaters to don their brightest retro gear and glide to hits from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s.
