KSA: No Gaming Sponsorships Will Be Allowed at the Dutch Grand Prix

The Dutch Gaming Authority (Kansspelautoriteit/KSA) announced that no gambling sponsorships will be present during the upcoming Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort.

No Sponsorships Allowed

The KSA, in line with its commitment to provide sports associations and organizers with extensive regulatory information and updates, has confirmed that there will be no gambling sponsorships at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Held at Circuit Zandvoort, the Dutch Grand Prix is an annual event that attracts many of the best racers in the world. Resumed in 2021 after a 35-year hiatus, the race is now a major highlight in the Dutch sports calendar.

In its announcement, the KSA noted that it the prohibition of gambling sponsorships during the event has been confirmed by the organizers of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix.

This means that participant in the race, including foreign teams, will be prohibited from showing visible sponsorships of gambling operators, whether the companies in question are licensed in the Netherlands or not. Additionally, any visible advertising of offshore operators has been strictly forbidden.

The KSA encouraged affected parties to contact it, should any questions arise.

KSA Remains Vigilant

In other news, the KSA recently issued a warning to one of its licensees, TonyBet, over prohibited betting markets. The operator in question had allowed unauthorized wagers, including bets on the winner of the Ballon d’Or and the winner of the Ballon d’Or at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The KSA clarified that these markets did not meet the requirements for legal sports betting per Dutch law since the prizes in question are awarded to athletes based on a jury decision or vote. However, the regulator let TonyBet off with only a reprimand due to the fact that the operator was cooperative and fact that no bets had been placed on the markets in question.

In the meantime, the KSA admitted that the Netherlands’ new tax policy has failed, hurting the legal gaming sector without generating the extra revenue projected by proponents of the recent changes.
