Reasons Why NFL Week 1 Odds Favor KC Chiefs

The Chiefs enter Week 1 against the Chargers with the same formula that’s kept them dominant in this matchup in recent years. They’re putting their hopes in the Patrick Mahomes magic, who’s got some fantastic options to throw the ball to – Travis Kelce, Xavier Worthy, and others.

The Achilles’ heel is still pass protection (particularly at left tackle), which the Chargers’ pass rush will look to exploit. The Chiefs offensive linemen will have a tough job of protecting their QB against Khalil Mack, Derwin James Jr., Tuli Tuipulotu, and the rest, who managed to sack Mahomes three times in the previous Chargers vs. Chiefs game.

On the bright side for KC fans, getting sacked is not something that seems to bother Mahomes. The evidence of this is that in the aforementioned game, he still managed to lead his team to a 19:17 win despite suffering three sacks.

Can LA Chargers Upset the Week 1 Odds?

The Chargers definitely have the firepower to disrupt the Chiefs QB and stop him from producing too many TD passes. With Khalil Mack at LB, these guys definitely look capable of sacking Mahomes multiple times in Mexico City.

The Chiefs boss, Andy Reid, might decide to switch up his game plan and let running backs (Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, etc.) try to take the football to the red zone, but that might not work that well.

The thing is that the Chargers are pretty good against runners. The evidence of this is last season, they were at the top of the table when opponent rushing TDs are concerned, allowing just 0.4 per game on average.

Speaking of last season’s stats, the Chiefs were second in the NFL in points allowed (18.5 per game). Obviously, their defense has what it takes to go to war with the Chiefs, but what about their offense?

They have a fantastic QB in Justin Herbert, who’s coming off one of the best seasons in his career. And the 2025 season could be even better as he now has better options on the receiving end.

WR Ladd McConkey is a player we expect a lot from. He did great in his rookie season, and in his second year with the Chargers, we expect him to take his performance to a whole new level.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Chargers Week 1 Prediction

We can smell a surprise in the Week 1 NFL Mexico game. The Chargers look ready to end their losing streak against the Chiefs. Odds say otherwise, but we think they can win. If you’d like to play it safe, the best bet you can make is the LA Chargers +3.

Pick: Los Angeles Chargers +3
