Joseph Markowski Announces DAZN Exit After 13 Years
Joseph Markowski has announced he will be stepping down from the position of CEO with DAZN North America after a total of 13 years spent with the company
Chief operating officer for DAZN’s North American operations, Joseph Markowski, has announced he will be leaving the sports entertainment group at the end of what he described as “13 fantastic years.”
“A Mixture of Excitement and Gratitude”
Markowski has been serving the role of CEO since 2022 when he was appointed in the position after his tenure as EVP for the region as well as Global Platform EVP in the previous years.
Between 2016 and 2018, he also served as DAZN’s commercial director in Japan. Before that, he spent one year and nine months in London as head of new markets and global commercial manager.
Markowski, who described himself as an “innovative C-suite leader with a proven ability to launch, lead and scale disruptive businesses across North American and international markets,” published a statement regarding his leave on his social media. “It’s with a mixture of excitement and gratitude that we announce my departure from DAZN after 13 fantastic years,” his announcement read in the beginning.
The former CEO with a “successful track record of leading businesses from strategic ideation to profitability whilst navigating challenging market conditions” also expressed how proud he was for the successful business that DAZN has built along his side, which he described as leading “a global disruption to the sports industry from an industrial park in Feltham.”
He also spoke about the two years that DAZN has “gifted” him in Tokyo, the six years in New York City, and the endless trips to all parts of the world, all of which he called experiences that he never took for granted.
Markowski also expressed his gratitude for the “incredibly talented, committed, and ambitious people” that he had the pleasure to work with over the years.
The now ex-CEO will keep offering his previous advice regarding DAZN’s operations from his new position as an advisor.
DAZN, Grateful for Markowski’s Commitment
The group also took the opportunity to praise his “significant role in the development of DAZN in his 13 years with the company” during which he helped lay excellent foundations for the global boxing proposition while extending their presence in the US and Japan.
They also expressed gratefulness for “Joe’s commitment, industry expertise, and strategic insight over the years” while wishing him all the best in his upcoming career endeavors.
“Joe will remain an advisor to the business,” they concluded in a statement while announcing the appointment of Pete Oliver as the person in charge of the overall global boxing proposition following Markowski’s exit.
In February, the group doubled down on France by appointing Brice Daumin as the new chief executive officer for France and Switzerland.
Last December, DAZN was actively looking to raise $1 billion through different initiatives.
