Lionel Messi to Step Up for Inter Miami

Inter Miami’s first game of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup ended 0:0, but it wasn’t a snooze fest as both teams created plenty of chances. In fact, the reason why the match ended without any goals is that goalkeepers on both ends did a fantastic job.

Inter Miami’s goalkeeper Oscar Ustari went 8-for-8 with saves, even saving a penalty in the first half. Al Ahly’s goalie also did great, stopping Lionel Messi & Co. on numerous occasions. They made 14 goal attempts that evening, with six of those heading toward the net – but none went in.

Messi will have to do better this time around if he wishes to stay in the competition. We know that he’s got the skills to create better chances than before, but the fact is that the soccer GOAT isn’t in great form right now. He’s without a single goal or assist this month, suggesting that the international break didn’t do him any favor.

But before the MLs went on a pause due to World Cup qualifiers, he was fantastic – scoring 5 goals and making 4 assists in three games in the second half of May.

2025 FIFA Club World Cup Odds Favor FC Porto

FC Porto started the FIFA Club World Cup with a 0:0 draw with Palmeiras, which came somewhat surprisingly. The thing is that Porto has a fantastic roster, with plenty of young players looking to showcase their skills on the global stage.

Forwards like Samu Goncalo Borges, and Danny Namaso are famous for their creativity, but they didn’t show it in Round 1. They created 11 goal attempts but made just 3 shots on goal.  

Their opponents were more creative, but luckily for Porto, their goalie saved the day. Claudio Ramos – who’s their second-choice goalkeeper – went 5-for-5 in what was one of his best games in years.

Inter Miami vs. FC Porto Prediction

Both teams did okay defensively in Round 1, but on Thursday, we expect them to focus more on the offense. Led by Lionel Messi, Inter Miami definitely look capable of scoring, but we doubt they’ll score enough to get anything out of this match. We think that whatever they do, FC Porto will do better.
