Illinois Lottery Player Wins $1M from Holiday Scratcher

A player from Illinois is preparing to celebrate the holidays of their life after winning a $1 million top prize from a festive scratch-off game. The winner promised to share the money with their mom.

A Huge Prize, Just in Time for the Festivities

According to the Illinois Lottery’s official announcement, the player won the money from a $1,000,000 Holiday Gold scratch-off ticket. As the game’s name suggests, $1 million is the top prize participants can win.  

The lottery reported that the winning ticket was sold at Sav-On Liquor & Wine, inside a Phillips 66 gas station in Fairview Heights, located at 10040 Lincoln Trail. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

In an interview with officials, the winner admitted that they were a big fan of holiday-themed lottery tickets and that they usually start playing as soon as such products hit the shelves. In this case, the winner decided to buy a $20 $1,000,000 Holiday Gold scratcher while on a visit to the store with their mother.

Later that day, my mom called me screaming that she was holding a $1 million dollar winning ticket. Of course I didn’t believe her – I thought, ‘There’s no way…’

However, the dream turned out to be true. Once the winner was convinced, they immediately went to their mother’s house and the two of them celebrated.

When asked about their plans for the prize, the winner vowed to split the money with their mom, giving her half.

I just never expected that I would win a big prize like this,” the winner expressed. “All I can say is – it really is possible.
