UFC 317 Odds Favor Ilia Topuria
On June 28 at UFC 317, “El Matador” steps into the Octagon to fight Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title. The reason this matchup is even happening? Islam Makhachev decided to chase gold at welterweight, leaving the 155-pound crown up for grabs.
Topuria wants to seize this opportunity. He’s a former Featherweight champ with a 16-0 record. This guy’s got so many weapons in his arsenal. He’s got fast hands, landing 4.69 significant strikes per minute.
Topuria also packs a lot of power, the evidence being that he’s got six wins by KO/TKO. This includes knockouts against Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway, two guys who had no such losses before stepping into the Octagon with Ilia.
He’s also great when it comes to wrestling, with 2.02 takedowns per 15 minutes on average. His grappling is also incredible, the evidence being that he’s got eight wins by submission in his portfolio. But he might not be as good a grappler as Oliveira, who’s a 3rd-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is 21-for-35 when submission wins are concerned.
Can Charles Oliveira Reclaim the Throne?
Charles Oliveira is 35-10-1 with 31 finishes, which makes him the record holder for the most wins inside the distance in the history of the UFC. He’s turning 36 this year and given that the Lightweight Division is super hard these days, he might not get another shot at the title if he loses the UFC 317 main event.
The bad news for his fans is that UFC 317 odds favor his opponent. He’s priced at +385 right now, the probable reason being that he’s 2-2 in his last four fights. Those losses happened against Islam Makhachev (submission) and Arman Tsarukyan (split decision).
When it comes to his recent wins, in 2023 he defeated Beneil Dariush by a TKO, while in his most recent fight, he won the 5-round war with Michael Chandler, winning by unanimous decision.
Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveira Prediction
Ilia Topuria is a real killer inside the Octagon who managed to put to sleep such tough guys as Holloway and Volk. But that happened in the 145lb division. Now, he’s moving up a weight class and we think it’s going to be harder for him.
We don’t think he can finish Oliveira – either by KO/TKO or submission. But we do think he’s got a better gas tank. Our prediction is that he’s going to out-strike “Do Bronxs” and get a win by decision.
Pick: Ilia Topuria by Decision
