IGT & Rhode Island Lottery Extend Partnership by Two Years

IGT remains committed to ensuring that the local betting industry remains strong and continues to generate revenue for the state

International Game Technology (IGT) has confirmed an extension of its agreement with the Rhode Island Lottery. This development seems to imply that a multi-operator market isn’t coming to Rhode Island anytime soon.

Rhode Island’s Gaming Framework Remains an Outlier

Rhode Island has cemented itself as a state with a somewhat unique stance on gambling – while the state allows most forms of gambling, it currently employs a single-operator model. Under this framework, the Rhode Island Lottery selected Bally’s as its main partner and allowed IGT to power Bally’s sports betting operations in the state.

While the initial partnership with IGT, originally penned in 2018, was set to expire this year, the Rhode Island Lottery has seemingly opted to extend the agreement, despite certain ongoing criticism against the single-operator model.

Per IGT’s official announcement, the contract extension with the Rhode Island Lottery will see it continue leveraging IGT PlaySports technology to power statewide retail and mobile sports betting through at least November 2028.

IGT Vowed to Continue Generating Value for the State

IGT’s senior vice president of sports betting, Joe Bertolone, commented on the renewed agreement with the Rhode Island Lottery, praising the opportunity to continue the provider’s relationship with the state. Bertolone asserted that his team remains committed to ensuring that the local betting industry remains strong and continues to generate revenue for the state.

IGT PlaySports continues to invest in the Sportsbook Rhode Island app to ensure the Lottery is offering a premier betting product that makes a positive impact on the State’s commitments to good causes.

Rhode Island Authorities Arrested Alleged Casino Robbers

In other Rhode Island-related news, authorities recently apprehended three individuals from Massachusetts who are believed to have carried out a coordinated robbery scheme inside Bally’s Hotel Casino.

The reported robbery took place two hours after midnight and included a hostage situation where an unfortunate man was held at knifepoint and forced to give the criminals $1,500.

Casino officials urged patrons to remain vigilant at night, while the case sparked new debates about the safety of gambling properties during late-night hours.
