Hard Rock Bet Lets Trivia Players Keep Extra Funds Despite Technical Mistake
Instead of disappointing players by invalidating the prizes, Hard Rock Bet doubled down, opting to let players keep their winnings
Hard Rock Bet just experienced a technical mistake that dramatically increased the prize received by winners of its weekly Live Trivia. Instead of apologizing and fixing the issue, however, Hard Rock Bet has decided to roll with the mistake instead of disappointing fans, awarding unexpectedly huge prizes to the lucky players.
Prez Said the Company Stands for Fair and Transparent Gaming
Since May, Hard Rock Bet New Jersey has hosted a weekly trivia challenge on its online platform. Every week, participants have to answer 10 trivia questions to win rewards. The initiative has a weekly prize pool of $5,000, with certain special weeks boasting a prize pool of $10,000 instead.
Last week’s game, however, was extra special due to a technical mistake that saw every trivia winner awarded a $5,000 prize. For context, players should have normally received roughly $14.
Hard Rock Bet’s team quickly identified the mistake. However, instead of disappointing players by invalidating the prizes, it doubled down, opting to let players keep their prizes. Hard Rock Bet’s president, Matt Primeaux, firmly stated:
When made aware of the incorrect Live Trivia payouts, our response was quick and deliberate: the awards stand. While others may have tried to claw back the $5,000 awards — Hard Rock Bet wants to put our customers first wherever possible, not just when it’s convenient.
Matt Primeaux, president, Hard Rock Bet
Primeaux added that Hard Rock stands for fair and transparent gaming that is not “filled with terms and conditions, asterisks, and promotions that can never fully be won.”
With some 353 trivia winners, this means that the company had to pay out a total of $1,765,000, far exceeding the usual $5,000 or $10,000 prize pools.
Special Edition of Live Trivia Coming Up
With Live Trivia already a hit, Hard Rock Bet prepares to offer its biggest (planned) payout yet as the July 4 game will boast a $25,000 prize pool in celebration of Independence Day.
The Independence Day Trivia special edition of Live Trivia is set to kick off at 8 pm EST this Friday. All participants will have seven seconds to answer each question.
Hard Rock Suspended a High-Level Executive
In other news, Hard Rock just suspended its corporate senior vice president of casino and hotel operations, Alex Pariente, due to serious allegations claiming he violated the company’s policies. Pariente was accused of potentially facilitating financial fraud and committing other player credit-related violations.
Hard Rock promised to investigate the matter, although it didn’t specify whether Pariente risks termination.
