Gamstop’s Annual Report Shows Growth, Executives Praise the Progress

Gamstop Group’s outgoing chairperson, Jenny Watson, praised the organization’s tremendous growth since its creation seven years ago

Self-exclusion services provider Gamstop Group has published its annual report, highlighting its progress in protecting vulnerable players from gambling harm.

The Organization Continues to Grow and Reach More People

According to the annual report, over 560,000 have registered with GAMSTOP since 2018. The scheme allows players to get their online gaming habits under control, allowing them to deal with addiction or simply give themselves a break.

The number of registrations has consistently exceeded original forecasts which suggests a “critical need for effective self-exclusion mechanisms,” according to Gamstop officials.

GAMSTOP has proven itself to be an efficient tool in preventing harm. In 2024, market research and public opinion specialist Ipsos conducted an independent evaluation of the service and found that three in four people using GAMSTOP no longer gambled online. In addition to that, 78% said that GAMSTOP has delivered the results they had hoped for.

As Britain prepares to introduce changes to how gambling harm research, prevention and treatment (RET) is funded, GAMSTOP data can help commissioners navigate a variety of challenges, the organization’s leadership believes.

Gamstop’s Outgoing Chair Praised the Progress

Gamstop Group’s outgoing chairperson, Jenny Watson, commented on the organization’s tremendous growth since its creation seven years ago. She emphasized that GAMSTOP is now an important element of the British gaming industry, helping thousands of vulnerable consumers shield themselves from harm.

Watson pointed out that over 1% of UK adults have self-excluded themselves from gambling. Additionally, statistics imply that the registration rate will not be slowing down anytime soon.

Our success is measured not only by the numbers but by the stories of transformation and recovery. Over the years we have heard from many consumers who credit GAMSTOP with helping them regain control over their lives. These personal accounts are a powerful reminder of the importance of our work and the profound impact it has on individuals and their families.

Watson, who was recently nominated for a NED of the Year award in the charity category concluded that she is confident that Gamstop will continue to make gaming safer for everyone in the UK.

Gamstop Will Continue to Help Those in Need

In the meantime, CEO Fiona Palmer welcomed the changes to how RET initiatives are funded and reiterated that Gamstop’s priority remains to deliver a “clear, technically robust exclusion solution to those who need it most.”

For reference, the Gamstop Group now runs two separate self-exclusion schemes. GAMSTOP, its namesake solution has been designed especially for online players who wish to bar themselves from accessing the many gambling operators available to them.

At the same time, Gamstop also runs MOSES, which is a scheme designed to exclude players from gambling at in-person betting shops.

In addition to that, Gamstop is also behind GamProtect, a tech provider that supplies innovative single customer view to gaming operators.

Earlier this year, GAMSTOP added an auto-renewal option in response to a popular demand.
