Jersey Cash 5, one of New Jersey’s most popular lottery games, has just crowned its first jackpot winner for the year. Not only that, but the lucky winner will take home almost $2 million, lifting the financial burdens from their shoulders.

The First Jersey Cash 5 Jackpot for the Year Is a Big One

According to the New Jersey Lottery, the winner in question was a player from Middlesex County. The lucky lottery enthusiast matched all winning numbers for the Saturday, January 10, drawing, resulting in a $1,997,829 windfall.

Lottery officials added that the winning ticket was purchased from South River Convenience Store on Jackson Street in South River. The store will get a $2,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

For context, the winning numbers for that drawing were 9, 12, 27, 31, and 32. In addition to that, the XTRA was 3 and the Bullseye was 31.

In addition to the $2 million jackpot, the lottery reported that some 72 players matched four of the five white balls and the Bullseye to win $500 each. Of these, 12 took home $1,500 instead due to matching the XTRA as well.

The jackpot was since reset to $150,000. After eluding players for a few days, it is currently standing at $230,000.

Powerball Player Just Won $1M

In other news, a Powerball player just took home $1 million after narrowly missing the jackpot. The player in question succeeded in matching all five numbers with the exception of the Powerball, thus leaving the grand prize unclaimed. As a result, the Powerball jackpot has reached $156 million with a cash value of $70.5 million.

Speaking of Powerball, the a player in Arkansas recently received a Christmas miracle after winning Powerball’s mouth-watering $1.8 billion jackpot. However, as of the time of this writing, the player has yet to come forward to receive their winnings.

While this might seem disconcerting at first, some jackpot winners do not immediately come forward to claim their prizes. This was proven by a recent Mega Millions winner in the US and National Lottery winner in the UK, both of whom claimed their jackpots a few months after winning.
