Ulberg is on a tear with numerous wins under his belt over the past years, whereas Reyes has emerged from retirement last year and has had three consecutive successful fights

Dominick Reyes will attempt to stem Carlos Ulberg’s eight-fight winning streak. Ulberg lost to Kennedy Nzechukwu by KO/TKO, and he has been back on his A-game ever since that time.

Reyes has also been doing alright for himself, defeating a streak of fighters, including Dustin Jacoby, Anthony Smith, and Nikita Krylov, following a four-fight losing streak. Is Reyes back to a point where he can actually contest Ulberg? We set out to find out.

Ulberg Is the Heavy Favorite, but Why?

There are reasons to back Ulberg if you are a betting person, granted. His most recent performance, for one. Ulberg has repeatedly taken on serious opponents, and while he had a few harder-won fights, specifically against Volkan Oezdemir and Jan Blachowicz, he won both with Unanimous Decision.

His previous fights before Blachowicz were won convincingly, with Ulberg either securing a KO/TKO or submitting the opponent. He is also riding nearly undefeated, with his only loss to Nzechukwu, who KO/TKO’d him in round one of their bout back in 2020.

Ever since, Ulberg has been working on his guard and technique, improving immensely over the years, raising his pain tolerance, and overall emerging as a much more accomplished fighter. He is yet to have a rematch against Nzechukwu, with Reyes proving the first important pass test.

Bookies are similarly generous when looking at the fight, giving Ulberg a generous (-260) and placing Reyes as the heavy underdog at (+260).

Can Dominick Reyes Continue His Winning Streak?

Reyes took a long hiatus from professional fighting after he clocked his fourth consecutive loss in November 2022, losing by KO/TKO in the first round to Ryan Spann. The fighter appeared completely desperate, and he had serious doubts about his return.

This momentary depression, though, quickly subsided, and Reyes did indeed return in 2024 when he won twice by KO/TKO. Earlier this year, he also took out Nikita Krylov, again by KO/TKO.

The thing is, the fighters he has fought since his return are more sparing partners, in the sense that they are not at the very top in their category. However, the quick wins Reyes delivered have certainly served to boost his confidence. He is demonstrating good footwork and has also improved his defense, but it’s not yet clear if he could resist a chance submission attempt by Ulberg, and this may be his greatest weakness.

Going into the fight this Saturday, Reyes has a lot to prove, and both fighters are at a crossroads where they would need to win to continue building upon their momentum. Yet, Reyes is the only worthwhile betting pick in this case, and we would bet on him if we were you.

Pick: Reyes to Win (+260)
