Dog Sitter Cancels, Couple Wins $1M as a Result

Michael H and Betty, his wife, had it all planned out. Leave the dog with a professional dog sitter and head over to Mexico’s Sea of Cortez – i.e. Rocky Point and have a romantic getaway. With everything booked on the calendar, one minor last-minute change upset their entire plan – their dog sitter had just cancelled on them.

Couple Has to Reschedule Holiday Plans and Visit Their Usual Weekend Spot

The couple was not happy to have a last-minute cancellation, naturally, but Michael and Betty made the most of it. They headed over to the Santan Mountain in Chandler, Arizona, for the weekend and had hard time believing how good things went for them at the property. On Saturday, May 3, the couple was playing at an unspecified Wheel of Fortune game when fortune struck.

It was Michael who was playing  when the slot started blinking rapidly and a sum appeared on the screen – $1,033,590. The couple had just won a life-altering sum and it came completely out of the blue. Although hardly their first visit to Santan Mountain, and in fact, a place they have been frequenting on weekends, this is the first time the couple had struck such big sum of money in one go!

Michael, a US Army veteran, who is retired and now drives a shuttle bus, appeared on the Gila River’s official promo picture celebrating his win.

The money is indeed something to get excited about, as the couple will now be able to move out of their home and buy a new house, as well as spend the remainder of the money traveling more – and specifically visiting their grandchildren who live outside of Arizona.

Not much other detail was available in the press release, with the couple now set to enjoy their newly-found fortune, and they owe it all to the dog sitter who decided to cancel. Cannot be mad at them for that.
